READY Nevada County

READY Nevada County
Extreme Climate Event Mobility and Adaptation Plan

The READY Nevada County Plan was developed in 2022 building upon the ongoing coordination and emergency planning efforts of the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services, as well as efforts of Grass Valley, Nevada City, and Truckee, to identify climate-related challenges to the transportation network in Nevada County and strategies to address them.

What is an Adaptation Plan?
An Adaptation Plan provides a blueprint for Cities, Counties and States to implement strategies to mitigate effects of climate events, such as wildfires, severe storms, and increasing temperatures.

Adaptation Planning consists of four phases:
  • Phase 1: exploring the potential effects of climate change on the community and identify key stakeholders.
  • Phase 2: assessing the vulnerability, including analysis of potential impacts and capacity to adapt, to determine vulnerability for the population, community assets, and natural resources.
  • Phase 3: creating an adaptation framework and developing strategies in response to the assessment.
  • Phase 4: implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the adaptation strategies. Adjustments can be made based on continued learning from the evaluation process.
The READY Nevada County Plan consisted of Phases One and Two and Three.

Project Goals
  • Understand the vulnerability of Nevada County transportation infrastructure and systems to extreme weather and climate events.
  • Develop climate adaptation strategies that will allow Nevada County to adapt to changing conditions and withstand, respond to, and recover rapidly from extreme climate events.
  • Gather robust feedback from the diverse community members of Nevada County and develop climate adaptation strategies that meet community needs.
  • Protect the rural qualities and historic character of Nevada County, while enabling the County to be prepared for extreme climate events.
